History of the Dojo
The Richmond Karate Club Kyokushinkaikan is Richmond's oldest Karate school and directly affliated with the International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan ( I.K.O.K. ) of Tokyo, Japan. The Club started in March, 1967, so that today it offers classes for Children (6 to 9 years old), Juniors (10 to 15 years old), Seniors (16 and over) and Women. Over the years, the Club has trained hundreds of students at all levels.

Our training is based upon Kyokushin traditions. The emphasis is upon strenuous daily training in accordance with the Kyokushin Maxim:

"One thousand days of training, a beginner;
Ten thousand day os training, a master."

All students receive official I.K.O.K. membership cards when they join the Club. All belts issued are internationally recognized and all our black belts receive international certification with the I.K.O.K. upon completion of their Shodan exam.

New students are expected to train to the best of their abilities, and regular attendance is expected in classes. Students are also encouraged to train at least two days at home each week to supplement their training is class.
