PART 5 - Self-Defense Seminar (July 5, 2001)
|
Summer training has begun at the dojo with classes being held once per week for July and August.
Class times are, Thursdays from 7 to 9 PM. All students from any dojo welcome (please make
sure you have your Sensei's okay). This week we had Shihan Don Corrigal visit and assist with
the instruction. A very spirited two hour class was held and as the weather was quite warm this
added to the amount of sweat that was freely flowing.
In addition to the kihon and ido geiko that was covered, considerable time was spent on "goshin
jitsu" (the techniques of self defense).
During the summer, the class is always challenged with alternates to our normal or regular training
routines. Tonight we practiced kata with several variations; reverse order (starting from the back
and working forward) and in a straight line (tate).
The question was asked of all "How well do you know your katas?" Judging from the perplexed looks
on everyone's faces, the answer was obvious, "Perhaps not that well!"
