Students from the Collingwood,
Langley and Richmond dojos gathered for Kyu gradings this
week. Sensei Leo (Langley) and Sempai Laszlo (Collingwood)
expressed a desire to have some of their senior belts stand
for examination with the Branch Chief.
The whole group went through all
Kyokushin kihon before being split into smaller groups.
Lower belts displayed their abilities in Ido Geiko and
fighting combinations, before the high belts stepped up.
The higher belts (4th kyu and
over) started by testing their stamnia with pad and bag
work, interspersed with push ups, squats and a variety of
other exercises. Once the group was warmed up and in some
cases "gasping for air", Ido Geiko and other aspects of the
grading followed.
One of the ideas to "test" the
students to see what their level of basics are, is to push
them physically, actually, stress them physically, then
begin with a variety of techniques. For the students that
struggle with fitness, it soon becomes apparent just what
level their basics are at. All the candidates responded
rather well, but I am sure they were happy to see the end of
the grading.
Spirited fighting finished off
the evening. Results will be announced with the next week.
Candidates included:
8th Kyu Nathan Germain
(Richmond)
6th Kyu Josh Germain
(Richmond)
5th Kyu Adel Gasmi (Richmond)
3rd Kyu Lloyd Perada
