History of the Dojo
|
The Penticton Club is operated by
Eddy Deuschle. The club and itfs
operations were formerly operated by
Terry Shivas. On
Jan 25, 2004
Terry officially transferred
operations to Eddy Deuschle. The
club membership consists of students
from Penticton, and the former OK
Falls and Naramata dojos. These 2
dojos on the outskirts of town
closed down upon the forming of the
gnewh Penticton club, and members
travel to Penticton to undertake
training two evenings per week. As
well, the advanced students train an
additional night in Eddyfs home
dojo.
The Penticton dojo was originally
opened by Darryl Hayter, whom passed
the operations on to Terry Shivas.
It has hosted tournaments and
seminars in the interior region in
the past, and future plans include
holding many more of these.

Training Philosophy: |
We are fortunate to live in the
beautiful Okanagan Valley, and we
take full advantage of this with
occasional outdoor training in all
seasons and conditions. This
provides some challenging workouts.
These workouts include training on
the beautiful lakeshore beaches in
the hot summer weather (and water
training too cool off!), in the
hills and mountains on all types of
terrain and slopes, and winter
training in the snow.
As well as training in the Kyokushin
style, members also train in the
basics of Judo. Eddy brings his 8
years of Judo experience to share
including throws, takedowns,
breakfalls, and the effective ground
techniques such as grappling, arm
bars and joint manipulations, and
choking techniques. Arrangements
have been undertaken to gintertrainh
with the Penticton Judo club
occasionally.
Our mission statementc
g To provide an amiable
atmosphere in which to learn and
perfect the mental and physical
skills of Kyokushin Karate, and to
work together to achieve realistic
goals through perseverance and
spirit.h
Our heartfelt thanks and utmost
appreciation and respect to Shihan
Stuart Corrigal for the support and
strong leadership he has provided
us, and all members of Kyokushin
Canada. We are honored to be a part
of this organization. |
Events: |
The Penticton club hosts the Annual
South Okanagan Kyokushin Karate
Tournament. This tournament was
previously held in Oliver B.C. over
the last number of years, and was
hosted by the Oliver and OK Falls
clubs.
The 4th Annual tournament
was held in Penticton on March 27,
2004, and will be an annual event
here every Spring. This tournament
gives the fighters in the Okanagan
region an opportunity to host and
participate in a local event, and
acquaint the citizens of Penticton
with Kyokushin karate. All are
invited to the Annual South Okanagan
Kyokushin Karate Tournamentc we
appreciate your support! Osu.
Events planned between the Oliver
and Penticton clubs will be to hold
2 regional tournaments per year in
the Okanagan Valley. One in
Penticton in Spring, and the other
in Oliver in the Fall.
As well interclub training sessions
between the Princeton, Cawston,
Oliver, and Penticton clubs are in
the plans for the future.
Instructors at the club are
attending the 4th North
American and International Black
Belt Conference at Banff Alberta on
October 8 – 10, 2004.
Interclub training (once per month)
with the Penticton Judo club is
being planned and introduced in
April of 2004.
