Dojo report 21 - Summer
Camp 2007
"For the Collingwood dojo
this was the biggest summer camp attendance yet with 19
people. We arrived Friday afternoon with three fully
packed vans and we started setting up our six tents at our
usual site. The weekend was looking very promising,
beautiful weather, great food, good swimming and we also
met with many friends from other clubs.
The Friday night training
started with good attendance, Shihan Don warmed us up with
Kihon, Ido Geiko, and Kumite. The next day we started at
6am with Sensei Lyle's running class, followed by
stretching. The day continued with a very busy schedule.
Through out the weekend we
practiced our katas, self-defense, fighting combinations,
Bo training. The instructors were working with various
groups of different belt levels to better accommodate
their needs. For the very energetic people Sempai Dean's
cardio kick-boxing class was more than satisfying and if
you needed to stretch out your mussels even more, Sherry's
yoga class was doing just that! At night after a good swim
in the river we enjoyed good food with lots of laughs at
our camp site. Shihan made the weekend more surprising
with extra midnight training and the next morning to bring
our spirits up we kept kicking our-selves into the record
books. The afternoon Black Belt fighting was, like always,
very exciting and all who tested did very well! The camp
was not ending just yet and we still had a terrific BBQ
sayonara party, thanks to Sensei Larry and Sempai Jean
Jacques, what a great party again! After dinner we were
getting ready for our "Disco workout", and believe me, it
was a workout!
To sum it up, the camp was
a blast thanks to Shihan Stuart and Don and all the
instructors and volunteers and we are looking forward to
the next one!
On September 1st, if you'd
like to train in the spirit of summer camp please come and
train with us all day at Central Park from 7am to 4pm (The Oyama Spirit Marathon), followed by a picnic social!
Training will include:
Kihon, Ido Geiko; Fighting training followed by a 2hrs.
of BO instruction, and Goshin Jitsu + stretching at the
end. Hope to see you there!
