The 10 member
team of the Collingwood dojo arrived at the Killarney
Community Centre bright and early, full of excitement,
attending this event for the first time!
After the
opening ceremony the competition started with the kata
preliminaries. Shiori Oyama was up first performing "Pinan
Sono-Go", everybody watching, dead silence as she moved from
stance to stance and then a nice confident finish, well done
Shiori!
Diana Tan and
Jessica Ho did "Pinan Sono-4" and "Tsuki-No Kata" and they
too had a good experience that they will take with them to
the next kata competition.
Zerlina Chan
was a bit nervous going up next to perform "Tsuki-No Kata",
but after catching her breath in mokuso she did a very solid
routine with good power, tempo and Kiai. Good job Zer!
John Chan and
Lloyd Perada both performed "Pinan Sono-5" and their power,
focus and clean techniques carried them into the top 5.
Later that afternoon Lloyd placed third in the finals and
took the bronze medal home. Excellent job on your first kata
competition guys!
The fighting's
started with the kids divisions where Jennifer Antal, Duc
Ngo, and Jacky Lui showed off their high spirits, power and
techniques. Although Jenny and Duc did not win their first
fights they did admirably and walked away with a sense of
accomplishment! Jacky did really good as well and took a
bronze medal home. These young fighters gained an experience
here and surly learned a lot! We are very proud of you!
We stayed all
day to watch some very exciting fights and demos, that
included traditional "Dragon dance" and Kung-Fu sword katas.
Our first
attendance at the Vancouver Cup was definitely a positive
experience and we look forward to the next one!
OSU!
