History of the Dojo
|
|
The club opened it's doors
September 6th 2004 on the Homalco Indian Reserve in Campbell
River. While at Homalco students participated in tournaments
throughout British Columbia earning many trophies and
achieving many goals. The Homalco reserve had a large van that
we used to travel in and we stayed in motels or in
school gymnasiums while at out of town tournaments. We
trained with Shihan Bobby Low in 2005 at the Richmond dojo and
the students were shown the dojo at the legendary St. Annes
Church where it all started for Sempai Joedy. Over the years
we have had numerous guest black belts including Shihan Stuart
Corrigal, Sensei Kathy Miller, Sensei Tom Gillam, Sempai Jim
Hughes, Sempai Dwight Sdrogefske and Sempai Cathy Bailon.
Sensei Tom Gillam has come to Campbell River a number of times
teaching our students Gojin Jitsu and the Bo katas as well as
providing testing. In 2008 our students travelled to Victoria
to train and test with Sensei Hiro.

Joedy Williams - Head Instructor
: |
Joedy Williams began training in Kyokushin in 1973 with
Sensei Tony Severs in Richmond at St. Anne's Hall with
Sensei Tony Severs. There he trained with Shihan Stuart
and Donald Corrigal, Sensei Ken Corrigal, Sensei Leo
Vandenboogard, Sempai Daryl Yea, and Sempai Pat Stogran.
During this time Joedy also trained extensively in
classical ballet which greatly improved his posture,
flexibility and body awareness. He competed in
tournaments both in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver
Island. After a long absence Joedy and his two children
Ryan and Rebecca returned to train in the Langley Dojo on
March 5, 2002 with Sensei Leo Vandenboogard whom Joedy
trained with as a white belt in Richmond. Joedy moved to
Campbell River in February of 2003 and the dojo opened
shortly after. Joedy also volunteers as a ski patrol for
Mount Washington and invites all Kyokushinka to join him
in the many activities in Campbell River such as: Skiing,
mountain bike riding, camping, fishing, hiking, hunting
and First Nations ceremonies such as "Sweat Lodge" and
"River Cleansing".
