First Belt
Testing in Campbell River
On April 6th
Shihan Stuart and Sensei Kathy took the ferry from Tsawwassen
to Duke Point on Vancouver Island and drove two hours to
Campbell River and performed the training and the first belt
testing for the new dojo which opened in September. The
turnout was very good with 15 students showing up.
Shihan Stuart
lead the training with Sensei Kathy demonstrating her
fantastic kicks, strength and flexibility. The kids were very
impressed to see the skill and expertise of Kyokushin kihon
demonstrated by both Shihan Stuart and Sensei Kathy.
Seven junior
students received their first stripe, five students were
promoted to 10th Kyu, one to 9th , and
two to 6th kyu. It was truly a fantastic
experience for the First Nations students of Kyokushin
Campbell River to train with Shihan Stuart and Sensei Kathy.
They were very proud of their testing and Shihan gave each of
them a Kyokushin tatoo which many of them wore to school the
next day. One student put it on his cheek which remained there
for days.
Sempai Joedy was
very pleased with his students and felt very supported to have
such fine Kyokushin black belts travel such a long way to test
his students. Directly after the belt testing Shihan Stuart
and Sensei Kathy drove all the way back to Richmond arriving
home in the wee hours of the next morning. Now thatfs
Kyokushin spirit for you!
The next belt
testing for Kyokushin Campbell River will be in August, when
Sensei Tony Severs will join them for a few days of training
in Kyokushin and self defense. Anybody is invited to join us.
There is a multitude of recreational activities available in
Campbell River along with many First Nation cultural
activities such as sweat lodge ceremony, big house dancing,
drumming, singing, ceremonial bathing and many others.

Sempai Joedy
