Sosai Mas Oyama would be very happy with the continued progress of Kyokushin Karate in Canada twelve years after his passing, as the IKOK-C follows his request:

Summer Camp 2006
Reported by Jennifer Quirt, Newton Dojo

My first experience at Kyokushin Summer Camp was incredible and unforgettable.  I met so many people and the training sessions were very informative and interesting.  As I am a new student I wanted to take a variety of training sessions in order to expand my knowledge and abilities evenly.  I took fighting training, kata training, and goshin jitsu.  The fighting training reinforced the basics as well as some suggestions from the trainers that I would have never of thought of on my own.  I learned a new kata in detail and was able to expand on my self-defence techniques (although I was unable to get the grass stains out of my Gi).  Learning the kata for the Bo was challenging and different and I look forward to working on it more. Watching the Black Belt fights was unbelievable and is something I will never forget.  The spirit of all the fighters involved, especially the belt candidates, gave me inspiration to start training hard now so one day I will be up there trying to obtain Shodan.  The dance was a blast and dinner was excellent, I haven't had so much fun in a long time.  Ultimately the Summer Camp focused my energy and reinforced my goals which will make me a better student.  I would recommend that everyone attend the Summer Camp and I personally can't wait for Winter Camp.
