Shihan B. Lowe
Funeral & Memorial Service -
September 30, 2011
Funeral and
Memorial services were held in
Honolulu, Hawaii on September
30, 2011, for Shihan B. Lowe.
Shihan was the
oldest active Kyokushin Karate
student of Sosai Mas Oyama up
until his passing on September
14, 2011. Amongst other
titles, Shihan Lowe was the
IKO International Committee
Chairman, North American
Kyokushin Chairman, and South
Pacific Kyokushin Chairman.
Shihan Lowe was also the most
senior advisor to Kancho
Shokei Matsui, head of the
International Karate
Organization Kyokushinkaikan.
Thirty students
from east and west Canada made
the trip to Hawaii to attend
the service. The Canadian
contingentfs presence was very
visible throughout the day as
most attendees were in their
Kyokushin dress uniforms.
Several members acted as
pallbearers during the church
service.
Fitting and
touching eulogies where
delivered during the church
service by Kancho Matsui,
Stuart Corrigal, Shihan K.
Gorai, Kathy Sham (Shihanfs
niece) and Shihanfs daughter
Barbara Lowe. After the
church service, the procession
moved to the Shihanfs final
resting place. A few final
words were spoken at
graveside, and then the
attending karate students
lined up for 20 punches as a
tribute to our friend,
instructor and mentor. A
luncheon followed where
everyone reminisced about
Shihan Lowe and his part in
our lives.
The following day
a memorial training session
was held at Ala Moana Park,
site of all of Shihanfs Hawaii
Seminars. Family members and
all the students of the Hawaii
Dojo attended training.
As Shihan used to
say: gAloha, but it is never
goodbye, only until we meet
againh.
OSU.
