Kyokushin Karate in Canada maintains
very high standards for Dan (black
belt) testing.
This standard is set internationally
by the IKO. The standards and
requirements are intense and require
major commitment from the candidate.
This year only three candidates in
Western Canada chose to stand for
grading.
The arduous testing schedule of the
IKOKC requires candidates to
successfully achieve the following
requirements:
-
Written application for testing
submitted to the Branch Chief by
January 31, of the testing year.
This includes all requirements
complete and a detailed resume of
the candidates karate activities
and training.
-
Certification of the following
items: First Aid certificate, CPR
certificate, recognized Canadian
government coaching certification.
-
Attendance at a specific number of
IKOKC Winter Training Camps.
-
Interview with candidate (at
Winter Camp) to discuss
eligibility.
-
Written exam (conducted at Winter
Camp).
-
Board breaking requirements.
-
Technical exam.
-
Attendance at a specific number of
IKOKC Summer Training Camps.
-
Kumite - completed at Summer Camp.
If you have aspirations to one day
wear a Kyokushin Karate black
belt, please train hard and
discuss with your instructor plan
and training program that will
ensure your success along the way.
Osu!
July 2010 – Cranbrook
Keith Klughart, Shodan candidate,
completed his technical grading under
the auspices of Sensei Lyle Zimmerman,
Sempai Jerry Gilchrist, Sempai Bill
Stalk and Don Corrigal.
We
look forward to seeing Keith complete
his grading at summer camp. Although
he is older than 35 years, he has
committed to doing his 10 man kumite.
Good Luck Keith!
