The 21st Canadian Kyokushin Karate Championships

a Tale of Two Siblings.......

Miranda McLean

10th Kyu, Langley Dojo
Silver Medalist
Childrenfs Non Contact Under 70lbs

Hi my name is Miranda McLean.  I am 7 years old.  I have been training at the Langley dojo for only 1 year.  With Sensei Leosf encouragement I entered the 21st Canadians in the Childrenfs  Non Contact Under 70 lb division.  My older brother Connor, 7th Kyu, was in the same division as I was and we joked about what if we met each other for the gold medal.

I won my first fight out, lost my second but didnft get discouraged.  I remembered what Sensei Leo said about gfighting for meh, so I did.  I fought as fast and as hard as I could and I started to win.  I was getting very tired but my coach Sempai Tamiko kept yelling, gGo Miranda! Go! Go!h.  Finally there was just one fighter left for me to fight.  It was for the gold medal match and who walked onto the mat to face me....MY BROTHER CONNOR!!

We both smiled at each other and got down to business.  I fought as hard as I could but was out scored 3 flags to 1.

I wasnft unhappy at all.  I was proud of my brother and I was proud of myself.  My Mummy and Daddy were very proud of both of us.  It was a really fun day and a really fun tournament. Osu.

Hi my name is Connor McLean.  I train under Sensei Leo at the Langley Dojo.  Boy did the 21st Canadian Championships have a lot of good fighters.  I never knew I was going to face my 7 year old sister Miranda!  I won my fights and I had to wait a long to see who would face me in the final.  Then they announced on the PA system that I would be apart of my motherfs worst nightmare.  I would be facing my sister for the gold medal!  My Mom and Nanny Connie yelled gOh my Gosh!!!h

When I entered the ring my sister gave me a thumbs up........ggood luckh I whispered to her.

We both fought very hard.  It was a shame to pick a winner, but I won 3 flags to 1.  When the Center Referee called us to shake hands we gave each other a hug and said hGood job!h

It was fun to get my trophy beside my sister because it was her first ever medal.  Especially when Sensei Lee was the one giving them to us! Osu!
