History of the Dojo
Vancouver Marpole Dojo was open in
September, 2004 as a part of Spare
Time Fun Center's activity. Today
there are more than thirty kids
joining the classes. Our goals are
not only fighting techniques, but
also to help kids to develop team
spirit and self-discipline, to
recognize rules, to respect
themselves and to show respect to
others. Hard training along with fun
and sport games will certanly help
kids to develop strong character
and healthy body.

In 1996,
Alex graduated from the State University
of Ukraine with a Diploma of Teacher of
Physical Education. When he moved to
Canada in 1997 in order to support his
family, Alex started working as an
apprentice-machinist in a machine shop
in North Vancouver. In 2002, he
graduated from BCIT with a machinist
diploma and currently works in this
profession.
His
passion for teaching he exercises by
sharing his knowledge and experience in
karate with his students in Vancouver
Marpole Dojo, which was opened in fall
2004 after Alex successfully past his
test for 1st degree Black
Belt. In summer 2009 after completing
20-man kumite, Alex obtained his Nidan
(second degree Black Belt). In addition
to Vancouver Marpole Dojo, once a week
Alex runs adult classes in his home
dojo: Richmond East, where he trains
under his Sensei Tats Nakamura.
Alex is a
member of BC Coachers Association: he
has completed levels 1 and 2. He also
has a First Aid Certificate level 2
which he constantly updates.
