History of the Dojo
|
The Edmonton Kyokushin Karate Club was started in 1983 by Sensei
Les Banas. In 1991 Sensei Mac Mierzejewski became head instructor after
Sensei Banas moved to British Columbia. Both of these instructors were at one
time Canadian champions, and both fought in the World Championships in Tokyo,
Japan. The Edmonton Kyokushin Club has produced many local and national
champions, as well as providing excellent karate and self-defense instructions
and general fitness to many Edmontonians.
In the fall of 2000, Sempai Nathan Howat became the head instructor of the
Edmonton Dojo. Sempai Nathan is a former National Junior Champion, and Canadian
Bronze Medallist. He has represented Canada twice at the World Championships.
In 2008, Sempai Joe Johnson became
the head instructor of our dojo. He
is a former Canadian Champion and
member of the national team. |
